Alboussière is a French commune in the Ardèche department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of southern France.

The inhabitants of the commune are known as Alboussiérois or Alboussiéroises[1]

Geography

Alboussière is located some 10 km west of Valence and 10 km east of Lamastre. It can be accessed by the winding D533 road from Valence which passes through the village and continues west to Saint-Barthélemy-Grozon. The D14 road from Vernoux-en-Vivarais in the south also passes through the commune to join the D533 just north of the commune. The commune is also covered with a network of small roads. There are nine other hamlets in the commune other than the village. These are: Aubert, Blanc, Les Chatanelles, La Chalaye, Bleizac, Le Mas, Le Vivier, Ponsoye, and Fialaix.[2]

There are numerous streams throughout the commune. The Ruisseau de Jergne forms most of the southern border and the Duzon forms much of the eastern boundary with large numbers of unnamed streams joining them.[2]

Demography

In 2009 the commune had 938 inhabitants. The evolution of the number of inhabitants is known through the population censuses conducted in the commune since 1793. From the 21st century, a census of communes with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants is held every five years, unlike larger towns that have a sample survey every year.[Note 1]

The population of the town is relatively old. The rate of people above the age of 60 years (26.9%) is higher than the national rate (21.8%) while being close to the departmental rate (27.1%). As for the national and departmental ratio of sexes, the female population of the commune is higher than the male population. Rate (51.7%) is of the same order of magnitude as the national rate (51.9%).

  1. ↑ At the beginning of the 21st century, the methods of identification have been modified by law No. 2002-276 of 27 February 2002 , the so-called "law of local democracy" and in particular Title V "census operations" which allow, after a transitional period running from 2004 to 2008, the annual publication of the legal population of the different French administrative districts. For municipalities with a population greater than 10,000 inhabitants, a sample survey is conducted annually, the entire territory of these municipalities is taken into account at the end of the period of five years. The first "legal population" after 1999 under this new law came into force on 1 January 2009 and was based on the census of 2006.
