Van Wert, Georgia
Van Wert is an unincorporated community in Polk County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.[1]
History
A post office was established at Van Wert in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1872.[2] The community was named for Isaac Van Wart, a militiaman in the American Revolution.[3] It was the county seat of Paulding County from 1838 to 1852 when the area became part of Polk County when it was established. Dallas, Georgia replaced Van Wert as county seat of Paulding County.
