Professional career
Timma grew up playing basketball in his hometown Krāslava, but later moved to Rīga at age 15. At first he joined ASK Rīga's system and made few appearances for its senior team during the end of 2008-09 season. Following year ASK Riga was dissolved and he played for DSN Rīga, a team that consisted of young Latvian talents. In April 2013, he led Ventspils to Baltic Basketball League championship and won the MVP award.[2]
In his second season with Ventspils, Timma won his first Latvian championship and was named MVP of the playoffs.[3]
On July 28, 2014, he signed with VEF Rīga [4] where he played for the first time in such quality competition as Eurocup and VTB United League.
Timma was named MVP of the 2015 Latvian Basketball League All-Star Game after he scored 41 points and set new scoring record.[5] On May 5, 2015, he was named the VTB United League Young Player of the Year.[6] He finished the season with VEF Rīga winning LBL championship. He made 58 appearances for VEF Riga, averaging 12.6ppg in all tournaments that his team participated in.[7]
On June 30, 2015, he signed a two-tear contract with the Russian team Zenit St. Petersburg.[8]
NBA
In 2013, Timma declared for the 2013 NBA Draft.[9] He was selected with the last pick (60th overall) by the Memphis Grizzlies.[10]
On June 24, 2015, the Memphis Grizzlies traded Timma's draft rights to the Orlando Magic, in exchange for Luke Ridnour.[11]
International career
Timma won a bronze medal at the U18 European Championship 2010. In 2013, he made his first appearance for Latvian National Team.
