On almost the entire route S7 will be built by upgrading existing National Road 7 (DK 7). Total planned length is 720 km (450 mi), of which 264.2 km (164.2 mi) has been built and a further 98.45 km (61.17 mi) was under construction in April, 2015.
As of April 2015 the longest stretch of this road that has been completed is a 55.6 km (34.5 mi) long section between Elbląg and Miłomłyn (south of Gdańsk). In June 2012 the S7 expressway south of Gdańsk forming the city's southern bypass opened to traffic. In July 2012 the S7 expressway between Pasłęk and Miłomłyn opened to traffic. In November 2012 the S7 expressway between the interchange with the S51 Olsztynek bypass and Nidzica opened to traffic.
