Cristóvão Soares de Melo
Cristóvão Soares de Melo, older spelling Cristóvão Soares de Mello (died 1584) was a Portuguese colonial administrator.
Biography
He was the grandson of Estévão Soares de Melo, a viator (veador) of Alfonso V of Portugal (Manuel José da Costa Felgueiras Gaio, Nobiliário das Famílias de Portugal, tt.° Barbas § 1 N 9)
Soares de Melo was the 18th corregidor of Cape Verde between 1577 and 1579, he succeeded António Velho Tinho and succeeded by Diogo Dias Magro.[1][2][3]
Between 1578 and 1579, the first English corsairs attacked Ribeira Grande on Santiago Island.
He married Violante Fernandes Coutinho.
