Carbon Hill is a census-designated place in central Ward Township, Hocking County, Ohio, United States.[1] Although it is unincorporated, it has a post office, with the ZIP code of 43111. As of 2012, the population was approximately 700.[2]
State Route 278, located on the western edge of Carbon Hill, is its main north-south street.
History
Carbon Hill was laid out in 1873.[3] Coal (a carbon-based fuel) was extensively mined there.[3] This industry accounts for the community's name.[4] A post office called Carbon Hill has been in operation since 1879.[5]

The residents of Carbon Hill are served by the Nelsonville-York City School District and Nelsonvilleol.
