Cake or Death, the final album by idiosyncratic singer-songwriter-producer Lee Hazlewood, was released November 27, 2006, after he received a diagnosis of terminal renal cancer in 2005.
The song "The First Song of the Day", a collaboration with German musician Bela B. was originally featured on the Bela B. album Bingo, there titled "Lee Hazlewood & das erste Lied des Tages".
The title of the album is a reference to a stand-up routine by British comedian Eddie Izzard, of whom Hazlewood was a fan.[3]
