Zak Carr

Zak Carr (6 March 1975 in Norwich, Norfolk – 17 October 2005) was a British cyclist who specialised in the time trial discipline.

He was a multiple national champion, winning the 12 Hour, 50 Mile Team and 100 Mile Team titles in 2003.[1] He also competed in tandem events, and was aiming to ride at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics as a sighted pilot.[2]

He was killed while cycling to work along the A11 road from his home town of Attleborough towards Norwich. He was struck from behind by a motorist who was returning home from a holiday. The driver was later sentenced to five years in prison; the prosecution argued he was sleep-deprived after an overnight flight and fell asleep at the wheel.[3]
