The Yishun Bus Interchange was located in northern Singapore, across Yishun Avenue 2 from Yishun MRT Station. The Yishun Bus Interchange will be demolished to make way for a new fully air conditioned bus interchange. In the meantime, Yishun Bus Interchange has been relocated to a temporary site across Yishun Central 1 named Yishun Temporary Bus Interchange behind Northpoint Shopping Centre which commenced operations on 14 March 2015. Height restrictions will be lifted and so services which are heavily used may be getting double-decker buses. As of 27 April 2015, double deckers started operating on Service 857. The new air conditioned interchange will be situated within a new shopping centre cum office and residential development, which is expected to be ready by 2019, called Northpoint City. An event was held on 14 March 2015 at 12:45am to commemorate their last revenue service from Yishun Bus Interchange before shifting to the temporary site. Yishun ITH will be the 10th Air-conditioned Bus Interchange and 3rd along the North South Line
History
The shops at Block 923 were closed and subsequently demolished in 2012 due to the development plans. Residents who were residing at Block 923 were transferred to a new residential area.
On 17 June 2013, the Housing & Development Board (HDB) released the land parcel where the interchange will be located and launched it for sale on 28 June 2013.[1]
Government Contracting Model
Service 85 has been transferred to the Go-Ahead Group from SBS Transit on 4 September 2016 as part of the Government Contracting Model – Loyang Bus Package.
On 7 June 2016, the Land Transport Authority called for tenders to operate 26 routes out of the Seletar Bus Package as part of its new contracting model. Ten services are under this package; if successfully tendered to a bus operator other than SMRT Buses, 171, 853, 854, 855, 856, 857 and 859 will be the remaining seven SMRT bus services left, which will all go to Sembawang-Yishun Bus Package. The bus services will be operated by the successful tenderer for a service term of five years, with a possible two-year extension based on good performance.[2]
