Born and educated in Ireland, he migrated to Australian in 1876 and became a farm worker and eventually a farmer at Corowa. From 1920-22 he was the President of the Farmers and Settlers' Association, and in 1922 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as a member of the Country Party, defeating Nationalist MP John Chanter for the seat of Riverina. Killen held Riverina until his retirement in 1931, after which he returned to farming. He died in 1939.[1]
Killen's grandson, David Leitch, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1973 to 1978.[2]
