William J. Babcock (April 8, 1841 - October 29, 1897) was an American soldier who received the Medal of Honor for valor during the American Civil War.

Biography

Babcock was born in Griswold, Connecticut and served in the Union Army during the American Civil War in the 2nd Rhode Island Infantry. He received the Medal of Honor on March 2, 1895 for his actions at the Third Battle of Petersburg on April 2, 1865.

He died in 1897 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. [1]

Planted the flag upon the parapet while the enemy still occupied the line; was the first of his regiment to enter the works.[2]
