The Whau Local Board is one of the 21 local boards of the Auckland Council, which replaced Auckland's previous eight councils on 1 November 2010.
The Whau board, named after the Whau River estuary which runs through the board area, covers the suburbs of Avondale, Blockhouse Bay, Green Bay, Kelston, New Lynn and New Windsor.[2] The total population residing in the Whau Local Board area, as of June 2009, was 76,400.[1]
The board consists of seven members elected at-large. The first members were elected in the nationwide local elections on Saturday 9 October 2010.
