The View Point Inn, located in Corbett, Oregon, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[1]
In 2008, the inn was used in filming of prom scenes in the first film of the Twilight Saga film series.[2] The exposure generated by the film was credited with giving the hotel and its restaurant a boost in business.[3] The 2011 fire was first spotted by two Twilight fans.[2]
In July 2011, the building's second floor was gutted by a fire, and its owners faced financial difficulties,[4] as the insurance on the building had lapsed.[5] In October 2013, plans to rebuild and reopen the historic structure were coming together, with work beginning the winter of 2013–2014.[5] Construction began, but soon halted. Shortly after, owner Don Angelo Simione,[6] died from cancer. Simione was the partner of Geoff Thompson. The fate of the inn appears grim. Thompson's brother is as well terminally ill and in hospice care.[7]
