Usman "Uzzy" Ahmed (Urdu: عثمان احمد; was born 21 November 1981) is an English Professional Boxer from Derbyshire, England. He was former British Masters, English, British and Commonwealth flyweight title challenger.[1]
Professional career
British and Commonwealth title
Uzzy Ahmed beat Chris Edwards by way of decision whilst challenging for the British and Commonwealth title.
English flyweight title
Then undefeated Ashley Sexton knocked the North London-based fighter out in the first round of their fight for the English flyweight title, it was the only knock-out of Ahmed's career. Footage from the bout went viral including Ahmed's over confident ring entrance (which is from another fight as his gloves were a different colour) followed by his speedy knockout.[1] Ahmed went on to claim he "gave a lot of weight away" during both fights, and stated that both boxers were a stone heavier than him.[2]
Sky Sports Prizefighter
He participated in Sky Sports Prizefighter, and knocked out Don Broadhurst in the quarterfinal.[1]
British Masters flyweight title
Ahmed fought for the vacant British Masters flyweight title in May 2013 against undefeated Jason Cunningham. Fighting outdoors at Doncaster Rovers' Keepmoat Stadium, Ahmed retired at the end of the fourth of 10 scheduled rounds, having been handed something of a lesson by unbeaten local favourite Jason Cunningham.[1]
International Masters title
In July 2010, Ahmed was scheduled to fight Luke Wilton in a rematch on their fight in Doncaster, England. However, Wilton failed to attend the weigh-in on 1 July, thus cancelling the fight.[3] On 28 June 2013, in what could have be a final attempt to show what he can do, Ahmed was to take on former conqueror Luke Wilton for the International Masters flyweight title, however the fight was again called off.
Potential bouts
Ahmed has been called out by rival Louis Norman, who defeated former undefeated British Pakistani Mohammed Waqas for the British Masters flyweight title.[4] Norman stated "I've got a title now so if he wants titles he should come and fight me ... I am so confident of beating him I will even box him with an arm behind my back"[5]
