Tom Ward (born 11 January 1971) is a British film, stage and television actor.
Early life
Tom Ward was born in Swansea, Wales, the son of poet and academic John Powell Ward and Sarah Ward OBE, a farmer. His brother Tristan became a partner at Macfarlanes LLP, a firm of solicitors in the City of London.
Ward was sent to the Dragon School in Oxford and The King's School, Canterbury. He read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Lincoln College, Oxford. He joined the drama society, and subsequently decided to pursue acting as a career.
Career
Ward is chiefly known for his role as Dr. Harry Cunningham in the long-running forensic drama series Silent Witness, a role he played for ten years.[1] He also featured in the Doctor Who Christmas special "The Snowmen" at the end of 2012, and in Death in Paradise in early 2013.[2]
In December 2013, Ward played Colonel Fitzwilliam in a BBC television adaptation of Death Comes to Pemberley.[3]
In December 2015, he appeared in Harry Price: Ghost Hunter, an ITV drama, alongside Rafe Spall and Cara Theobald.
Personal life
Ward has fenced for Britain.[4] He plays saxophone, sings and dances. He keeps fit by riding, a skill that he has used in several television roles.[2]
In 2005 he was a winner on the BBC quiz show Celebrity Mastermind; his specialist subject was the poet Philip Larkin.
In 2001 Tom Ward married journalist Emily Hohler. They live in North Leigh, Oxfordshire with their three children: Jack, born in 2002, Tabitha, born in 2004, and Jimmy, born in 2006.
