Toby Longworth

Toby Longworth is a British actor who has appeared on film, radio, television and recently a PC horror game. He is originally from Somerset, where he attended King Edward's School, Bath. He has worked most often as a voice actor, however, notably in several high-profile science-fiction projects.

Biography

Between 1984 and 1989 Longworth was part of a double-act, 'The Rubber Bishops' with Bill Bailey, a former school friend from Bath. Toby left in 1989 to join the RSC. He was later a regular performer on the radio comedy Week Ending.

Longworth provided the voices of Lott Dod and Gragra in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. He can also be heard in several instalments of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Tertiary to Quintessential Phases, as Wowbagger and Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz. He has also appeared in many audio dramas by Big Finish Productions including their Doctor Who spin-off range and taking the lead role as Judge Dredd in their line of audio plays based upon the 2000 AD series, as well as the supporting role of Wulf Sternhammer in the spin-off series based on Strontium Dog comics.

One of Longworth's most notable performances for Big Finish was in Judge Dredd: Solo, in which he provided the voices for all 34 roles, occasionally with the aid of vocal effects and multi-track recording but often by simply using his own abilities to impersonate multiple characters.

On radio, he appeared in the 1994 BBC Radio 4 comedy Truly, Madly, Bletchley, 1997/8 The (Almost) Accidental Adventures of Bell and Todd, 1999's Life, Death and Sex with Mike and Sue, 2000's The Treatment on BBC Radio 5 and most recently It's Been a Bad Week on BBC Radio 2. He appeared as the Electric Monk in the 2007 BBC Radio 4 adaptation of Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. He has also appeared several times at the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.

He appeared in Episode 4 of the Second Series of Extras as a Bafta executive who has to tell Ronnie Corbett off for substance abuse.

He has narrated three documentaries for the BBC Worldwide Doctor Who DVD range, namely Paris in the Springtime on the 2005 DVD release of City of Death, A Matter of Time on the 2007 DVD box set of The Key to Time and Cheques, Lies and Videotape on the 2010 DVD release of Revenge of the Cybermen.

Since 2009, he has given voice to several of Games Workshop's Black Library audiobooks: Heart of Rage, Thunder from Fenris as well as the Horus Heresy dramas, Raven's Flight, Garro: Oath of Moment and Garro: Legion of One

In 2012 he recorded the audiobook 'Great North Road' by Peter F. Hamilton.

He is married to Louise (née Benton), a modelmaker who has worked for the BBC and Damien Hirst.

In 2013 Toby voiced the protagonist and main character Oswald Mandus in the videogame Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.

Early 2014 he read and acted for the audio book version of the videogame novel Elite: Reclamation.[1]

In 2016 he appears as Uncle Mirth in the BBC series Father Brown episode 4.4 "The Crackpot of the Empire"
