Tirumanancheri Udhvaganathar Temple

Tirumanancheri Udhvaganathar Temple is a Hindu temple located at Tirumananjeri in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu, India.[1] The presiding deity is Shiva. He is called as Udhvaganathar. His consort is known as Gokhila. Sri Kalyanasundareswarar swamy Temple is another name for this temple.[2]

Significance

It is one of the shrines of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams - Shiva Sthalams glorified in the early medieval Tevaram poems by Tamil Saivite Nayanars Tirugnanasambandar and Tirunavukkarasar.[1]

Tirugnanasambandar describes the feature of the deity as:[3]

விடையானை மேலுல கேழுமிப் பாரெலாம்

உடையானை யூழிதோ றூழி யுளதாய
படையானைப் பண்ணிசை பாடு மணஞ்சேரி
இழியாமை யேத்தவல் லார்க்யெய்து மின்பமே.

Tirunavukkarasar describes the feature of the deity as:[4]

நீர்ப ரந்த நிமிர்புன் சடையின்மேல்

ஊர்ப ரந்த உரகம் அணிபவர்
சீர்ப ரந்த திருமணஞ் சேரியார்
ஏர்ப ரந்தங் கிலங்குசூ லத்தாரே.

Edirkolpadi Temple is located nearby in the same town. This is one of the thevaram paadal Petra Shiva sthalam of Kaveri Vadakarai in Chozha Nadu. It is also called as melai thirumanajeri
