Thiolactic acid is a carboxylic acid that is like lactic acid but one of the oxygen atoms is replaced by a sulfur atom. Thiolactic acid is predominantly used in cosmetic applications and hair permanent waving formulations.[1] Instead of using the acid itself, its salts are used because they are safer to handle.
