The Willows Academy is an all-girls private school in Des Plaines, Illinois, United States, with its religious education under the direction of Opus Dei. The school is divided into the Middle School (6-8) and High School (9-12). There are approximately 250 students enrolled in grades 6-12, with about 25 students per middle school class and forty students per high school class.[2] The original school was located on Vernon Avenue in Glencoe, IL. The second location was in Niles, IL.

The Willows Academy is the sister school of Northridge Preparatory School. The school is a member of the Illinois High School Association and the Independent Schools' League. The Academy was named one of the best 50 Catholic secondary schools in the nation in 2008 and is on the 2008 Catholic High School Honor Roll.[3]

Mission

The Willows Academy is an independent school for young women in grades six to twelve. The school provides a college-preparatory academic program which it claims to achieve in a "moral atmosphere complementary to that of the home and character formation designed to instill lifelong values". The Willows Academy is inspired by the teachings of the Catholic Church and the spirituality of the Prelature of Opus Dei.

History

The school was founded in 1974 by a group of parents and educators in the Chicago area. They wanted to create a learning environment that would combine academic excellence, personal attention to each student, and sound moral rectitude in partnership with parents and guardians.

Academics

The Willows Academy curriculum is based on the liberal arts. The Academy's low student-to-faculty ratio allows students to receive the full attention of the teachers. Willows keeps course enrollment small to maintain an intimate learning environment. Academic courses are taught at the honors or advanced placement level. Twenty-seven credits are required for graduation. The academic program meets the requirements of all major universities.

Athletics

The Willows Academy has four sports that compete under IHSA regulations in the Class A division. The Willows offers a variety of athletics to girls in all grades.

The Willows is associated with the Independent Schools League (ISL) and competes in inter-league volleyball, cross country, basketball, softball and soccer.

Middle School Athletics: Volleyball, Cross County, Basketball, Soccer

High School Athletics: Volleyball, Cross Country, Golf, Basketball, Swimming, Soccer, Softball
