The Chew is an American cooking-themed talk show that airs since September 26, 2011 on ABC as part of the network's weekday daytime lineup. The name and format was inspired by fellow ABC talk show, The View, but The Chew centers on food-related and lifestyle topics rather than celebrity news.[2]
In April 2015, The Chew won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host. This is the show's first Emmy win and also the first Daytime Emmy nomination and first win for each of the five co-hosts.[3][4]
Broadcast
The Chew airs at 1:00 pm Eastern/12 noon Central, the slot formerly occupied by the long-running soap opera All My Children. ABC stations in the Mountain and Pacific time zones, and in Alaska and Hawaii follow a Central time zone schedule for daytime programming; thus, The Chew is scheduled by the network to air at 12 noon in these areas.
A limited number of ABC affiliates in the Central Time Zone air the program on a one-day delay at 11:00 am (maintaining the delay schedule All My Children followed before it was ended; this delays the Friday episode to Monday) in order to continue airing their noon hour local newscasts such as KSAT-TV in San Antonio, WFAA in Dallas, KRGV-TV in Weslaco, Texas and WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two stations, WBAY-TV in Green Bay, Wisconsin and KMIZ in Columbia, Missouri, received permission to tape-delay the program for the 2015-16 season to avert situations where episodes with recipes timed to a specific holiday were rendered useless due to the delay.[5]
The program also airs in Canada on City.
Background
It premiered on September 26, 2011,[2] and replaced the soap opera All My Children.[6] It is hosted by Mario Batali and Michael Symon, Carla Hall, Clinton Kelly (the show's moderator) and wellness enthusiast Daphne Oz.[2]
The Chew is produced by British-Australian former talk show host Gordon Elliott, who also serves as the show's announcer and has occasional on-camera roles.[7] The show records at ABC's Lincoln Square facilities at 30 West 67th Street in New York.[8]
Publications
The show's first cookbook, The Chew: Food. Life. Fun., was released on September 25, 2012.[9] The follow-up, The Chew: What's For Dinner, was released on September 24, 2013.[10] A third book, The Chew: A Year of Celebrations, was released on September 23, 2014.
