The Asian Banker Journal, a trade publication that covers the global financial services industry, was founded in Singapore, by Emmanuel Daniel and his associates. The company has grown into The Asian Banker group, with research, conferences and training businesses, all focusing on providing information and analysis on the global financial services industry. Articles from the magazine also appear on the company’s website,[1] on the company’s Chinese website[2] and in the Chinese version of the magazine, which is published in China.[3]

In 2009 The Asian Banker launched its online edition, in a move which the journal argues is a shift in the priorities of the organization to focus more on content deliver rather than solely print media.[4]

Publications

The company’s original product was The Asian Banker Journal, and at its launch in January 1997 it was a quarterly publication of 40 pages. Throughout 1997 and 1998, it provided on-the-ground coverage of the Asian financial crisis, anchored by Daniel’s journalistic skills and award-winning articles—Daniel won the prestigious Citibank Excellence in Journalism Award for the Asian region in February 1999 for his work in determining the impact of the Internet on banking.[5]

The magazine covers a wide range of industry topics, such as opinion editorials, current events analysis, retail banking, transaction banking, risk management, bank regulation and IT for financial services. It features profiles of individuals in the financial services industry, some of which can run to several pages if the individual is particularly influential.[6] The publication is characterized by its coverage of bank CEOs and chief regulators interviews. Transcripts of these interviews can also be found on the company’s website.[7]

By 2005 The Asian Banker Journal was published 10 times a year. While Daniel turned over management of the magazine to staff, he still writes for a blog.[8]
