Tanza National Comprehensive High School or Masaklaw na Pambansang Mataas na Paaralan ng Tanza in Tagalog is a public high school located at Daang Amaya II, Tanza, Cavite, Philippines. TNCHS or simply Tanza High was established on November 1949 and popularly known for its school publication The Clarion and Ang Klaryon which won twice as Best Student Organ - High School category in Catholic Mass Media Awards 2003 and 2005.

History

Long years ago, the demand for the secondary school in Tanza, Cavite was imperative for the people because in the province of Cavite, only Cavite High School in the north and Indang Rural High School in the south persisted. It was a dilemma for the high school students from Tanza, especially those coming from barrios and neighboring towns, to commute from their place to the city, which was a distance of 25 kilometers. And so, the civic-spirited citizens of Tanza worked hard to have a high school established in their place.

November 5, 1949, the Tanza High School was opened, but all classes were held in rented buildings with rooms far below standards set forth by the bureau. There was no playground as the site was formerly rice land and health facilitated was in adequate. But those problems were resolved when the school fortunately chose as the recipient of “pork barrel” allocation of Honorable Justiniano S. Montano.

A school site of 40, 000 square meters was acquired and two story main buildings with eight rooms and standard home economics buildings were constructed. October 27, 1952, Tanza High School was transferred to this site. Since then, the school’s population began to grow every year. And to meet the demand of accommodation, the school constructed more buildings.

During its early years of operation, Tanza High School offered a curriculum which was basically academic. The next years, the curriculum was changed to RSEP’73 in response to the needs of community and the New Society’s educational reforms. With this academic and vocational subjects are given equal weight of importance.

At the same time, Tanza High School which formerly subsisted on its income from tuition fees plus the aid from the municipal government was changed to Tanza National Comprehensive High School. Being comprehensive, the curriculum was with the addition of specialized courses and electives in the academic. And being a national high school, its subsistence is now provided by the national fund.

School Paper

The Clarion, the official school paper in English of the Tanza National Comprehensive High School, Tanza, Cavite, saw its birth in 1950 through its founder and first adviser, Mr. Eladio Q. Villa. He is the father of the late Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Atty. Romulo Villa, an alumnus of the school.

Through the years, The Clarion has served as the voice of the students and an avenue in honing up their literary skills. It has become an avenue for self-expression and for the development of desirable values among its student-writers and readers. The contents of the student organ dealt primarily not only on current issues but somehow on the realization that good attitude could be acquired through reading articles geared towards love for life, justice and truth; for all the beautiful things in the world particularly, nature. Noted public servants like former National Bureau of Investigation Director, Cavite Governor and Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Epimaco Velasco, ex-Congressman Renato Dragon, the late Atty. Romulo Villa, were once staffers of the student organ. Add to them the more than hundred educators, lawyers, doctors and nurses, career executives and other successful men and women, innumerable alumni who proudly said that during their high school days, they were part of The Clarion, which helped them shape their lives.

Aside from Mr. Villa, other advisers guided the staff one after the other until the school year 1982-1983. They were: Mr. Jose Concepcion, Mrs. Dominga Deseo, Mr. Antonio Sales, Mr. Gabriel Flores and Mrs. Remedios Arvisu. From 1983-1984, Ms. Amor S. Kagahastian managed and advised the staff up to the present. In 2001, Mrs. Nerissa L. Profeta was assigned as her co-adviser. The succeeding years marked the golden years of The Clarion when its staff participated and won in the annual regional and national schools press conferences.

From 1983 to present, the staff has 107 individual regional awards and nine individual national awards highlighted by Kathleen Tosco’s title as the 2001 Most Outstanding Campus Journalist of Region IV at Lipa City and the Most Outstanding Campus Journalist of the Philippines at the National School Press Conference, Dagupan City.

Moreover, this English publication has maintained its place in the top ten Best School Paper category in the Regional Level for 19 years.

In the national level, The Clarion is a two-time third placer and one time ninth placer as Best School Paper of the Philippines. In the Student Catholic Mass Media Awards, The Clarion won twice as Best Student Organ in the High School Level for 2003 and 2005. It has also been a finalist when it first joined the contest. When the division level had its first group competition in 1995-1996, again, The Clarion won the title Best School Paper in English of the Division of Cavite. It held the championship award since then. Likewise, the staff has accumulated 131 individual awards, thus claiming the title Best School Paper for eleven years now.

Its adviser, Ms. Amor Kagahastian has also won for herself the title the Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser of Region IV and of the Philippines in the school year 1994-1995 during the Regional Schools Press Conference at Lucena City and the National Schools Press Conference at Koronadal, South Cotabato, respectively. Moreover, her former assistant adviser Mrs. Nerissa Langit Profeta also won the said titles in the school year 2010- 2011 at Sta. Rosa, Laguna and Butuan City. As of now, the school paper advisers are Ms. Jilianne Arbonida, Mrs. Arlene Dela Costa, Mr. John Javir Laserna and Mrs. Emraida Torres.

In the year 2013, Tanza National Comprehensive Highschool with their school paper Ang Klaryon and The Clarion won the crown on Division Schools Press Conference and being able to achieve the title as the eighteen-time champion all over the district of Cavite.
