Sunway University

Sunway University 双威大学 is a university with a 10 hectare (24 acre) campus in Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia comprising academic and residential blocks. It was opened in 1987, as Sunway College; in 2004, the College was upgraded by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education to a University College and in January 2011, it was upgraded again to Sunway University.[2] It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes taught in English. Sunway University is part of the Sunway Education Group. Its Vice-Chancellor is Professor Graeme Wilkinson;,[3] who is supported by a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and a Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Higher Degrees).

In 2012, the university celebrated its silver jubilee.[4]

Structure

Schools and Faculties

Sunway University campus offers programmes from undergraduate through to PhD through the following faculties:

All faculties (except the ADTP) offer diploma and degree programmes. SUBS and FST offers diploma, honours programmes, Master's, and PhD programmes. The ADTP programme, offered since 1987, has transferred students to universities in the United States and Canada.[5] The Hospitality, Tourism and Events Management programmes are offered at the Centre of Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Management, under SUBS.[6] Sunway University operates in collaboration with its sister institution, Sunway College which offers pre-university programmes, such as GCE Advanced Level, South Australian Certificate of Education, Canadian International Matriculation Programme, Monash University Foundation Year and Sunway Foundation Programme as well as twinning degrees at the undergraduate and MBA level with Victoria University in Australia. Sunway College also offers an Association of Chartered Certified Accountants certification programme in accounting.

Sunway University, Sunway College and Monash University Sunway campus are members of the Sunway Education Group, which are owned and governed by the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation. The Foundation was officially established as a registered charity in March 2010 from the predecessor Sunway Education Trust, set up in 1997. It is founded by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, AO, Founder and Chairman of the Sunway Group. At such, the Sunway Group is the parent company of Sunway Education Group. All of the educational institutions that operate under the Foundation are non-for-profit; surpluses are channelled towards scholarships and awards to students, as well as grants for research.
