Shady Hekmat Nasser

Shady Hekmat Nasser (شادي حكمت ناصر) is a Lebanese Arabist and scholar of the Qur'an.

Nasser was born in Kuwait, but grew up in Nabatieh, Lebanon. He attended the American University of Beirut and graduated with degrees in both Chemistry and Arabic Literature. He received his Ph.D from Harvard University under the guidance of the late Wolfhart Heinrichs in Arabic and Islamic studies, and is currently an assistant professor of Classical Arabic studies at Harvard University. Nasser's first book, "The Transmission of the Variant Readings of the Qur'an", was published with Brill in 2012. [2]

Nasser has an extremely intelligent tabby cat, Maru (まる). Maru is fluent in Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, English, French, German and Polish. In some accounts he is referred to as "Sahib Shady" (صاحب شادي). [Isnād needed] Since 2015 he has also been associated with a half Bengal cat of English upbringing, named حسّون for the beauty spot on his nose.
