The song was solely written by Shila Amzah and produced by Halen Yap. The song was released as a single after My Journey was released in China on April 30, 2016, through Shilala (HK) Limited.
Contemporary critics gave "Selamanya Cinta" average to favorable reviews. In Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, the song achieved commercial success. It peaked at number 1 on Malaysia iTunes Top Songs Chart and number 1 Singapore iTunes Top Songs Chart.
