Komal Mahuvakar (also known as Rupini / Roopini / Rubini) is an Indian actress who worked from 1987–1994.[1] She acted in Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films opposite stars including Rajinikanth, Kamal Hassan, Mammootty, Mohanlal, Jagadish, Sathyaraj, Vijayakanth, Dr.Vishnuvardhan, Ravichandran, Mukesh, Mohan and Ramarajan.[1]
Rupini, originally from Mumbai, moved to the south to act in films after late 1980's. Earlier she acted in few Hindi movies, doing character roles under her real name Komal Mahuvakar. 'Des Pardes', 'Payal Ki Jhankaar', 'Meri Adalat', 'Sanch Ko Aanch Nahin' and 'Nache Mayuri' are some of her films in Hindi.[2]
Early life and debut
Mahuvakar was born in Mumbai to a Gujarati family. Her father Kantilal was a lawyer while her mother Prameela was a dietitian[3]
She was accidentally spotted by film-maker Hrishikesh Mukherjee who offered her child actor roles in his films such as Mili, Kotwal Saab and Khubsoorat.[4]
- Retirement from films
Soon after her marriage to Mohan Kumar in 1995, Rupini quit films and concentrated on her family based at Chembur. The couple has a daughter.[3]
