The Rugby League Conference Leagues are the two top tier amateur leagues in Britain. Both leagues run parallel to each other.

History

The National Conference League was founded in 1986 by the British Amateur Rugby League Association. A second division was added in 1989 and a third was added later on. In 1997 a new league was created separate to the NCL for clubs outside the rugby league heartlands. The Rugby League Conference steadily expanded throughout the 2000s and reached 100 clubs in 2010. In 2012 the NCL switched to summer to align with the professional game and the RLC folded and was replaced with the Conference League South and several separate regional leagues.
