Roman Ivanychuk
Roman Ivanovych Ivanychuk (Ukrainian: Роман Іванович Iваничук, 27 May 1929 — 17 September 2016) was an Ukrainian writer and politician.[1] He was the 1985 laureate of the Shevchenko National Prize. Between 1990 and 1994 he was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada. In 2009, he received a title of Hero of Ukraine.[2]
Ivanychuk was born in Trach, currently in Kosiv Raion, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. He studied languages at Lviv University and graduated in 1957. He worked as a school teacher between 1957 and 1963; he published short stories and novels since 1958. After 1963, Ivanychuk worked as an editor of Zhovten magazine until 1990. In 1995, he became a professor at Lviv University and taught there until his death.[2] He died in Lviv in 2016.
Bibliography
Ivanychuk wrote around 15 historical novels, and a number of short-story collections. Some of his books were translated into French and Russian.[3]
