The Roman Catholic Diocese of Jhansi (Latin: Ihansien(sis)) is a diocese located in the city of Jhansi in the Ecclesiastical province of Agra in India. Peter Parapullil has been the diocesan bishop since 2012.
Present bishop
On Wednesday, October 31, 2012, the Vatican Information Service (VIS) bulletin of the Holy See Press Office stated that Pope Benedict XVI has "accepted the resignation from the pastoral government of the Diocese of Jhansi (India) presented by Bishop Frederick D'Souza in accordance with can. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law and appointed Bishop of Jhansi (India) Peter Parapullil, the Vicar General of the same diocese. Parapullil was born December 2, 1949 at Perumanoor, Archdiocese of Verapoly, Kerala. He completed his studies in philosophy at the seminary of Alwaye, Kerala, and then moved to St. Joseph's Seminary in Allahabad. He holds a BA and an MA in English Literature at the University of Bundelkhand, and a Diploma in Social and Religious Communication at the Gregorian University in Rome, attending a short seminar on the same subject to the CREC Avex in Lyon, France. He obtained a BA in Education from the Annamalai University. He was ordained a priest on 29 February 1976 in the parish of Gwalior, in the Diocese of Jhansi. After ordination he held the following positions: 1976-1978: assistant at the Pakdilpur Mission; 1978-1979: assistant priest at St. John, Lashkar; 1979-1981: Assistant Priest at Christ the King Church; 1981-1982: Rector of the Apostolic School; 1982-1992: Procurator and Rector of the Shrine of St. Jude, Jhansi; 1992-1993: Studies at the Gregorian University, Rome, residing at the Pontifical North American College; 1993-1999: Director of Social Work; 1994-1998: Member of Caritas India; 1998-1999: Director of Communications Sector; 1999-2005: Secretary of the Bishop, Director of Pastoral Care and Archivist of the Curia, 2003: Vice President of Uttar Pradesh Utaranchal of SIGNIS India. Since 2005, he is the Vicar General of the Diocese of Jhansi. From 2006 to 2012, he was also pastor of the Cathedral of Jhansi in 2012 and is also Dean of Christ the King College, Jhansi."[1]
