The fictional 5th Baron Chuffnell. Nicknamed "Marmaduke" by his fiancee Pauline Stoker, and "Chuffy" by his friends at the Drones Club. Due to financial troubles with the running of Chuffnell Hall, he is planning to sell it and the estate to American businessman J. Washburn Stoker. It is during this transacation that he meets and falls in love with Pauline, Stoker's daughter, although their engagement is temporarily thrown into disarray by Bertie's blunderings. He discovers, to his concern, that Pauline was once engaged to Bertie.
Jeeves produces a plan to get Pauline and Chuffy together. Chuffy is normally a civil, decent fellow to Bertie, but can easily succumb to anger when his engagement with Pauline is put in doubt. Chuffy saves Pauline when Bertie's cottage burns down.
