Reginald "Reg" Edward Blakemore (1 September 1924[1] — 20 June 2006 (aged 81)) born in Newport, was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer of the 1940s and 1950s, playing representative level rugby union (RU) for Wales, and at club level for Newport RFC, as a Hooker, i.e. number 2, and playing club level rugby league (RL) for St. Helens, as a Hooker, i.e. number 9, during the era of contested scrums,[2] he died in Parr, St. Helens

Reg Blakemore won a cap for Wales (RU) while at Newport RFC in 1947 against England.[3]

Challenge Cup final appearances

Reg Blakemore played Hooker in St. Helens' 10-15 defeat by Huddersfield in the 1953 Challenge Cup final during the 1952-53 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 25 April 1953.[4]

County Cup final appearances

Reg Blakemore played Hooker in St. Helens' 5-22 defeat by Leigh in the 1952 Lancashire Cup final during the 1952–53 season at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 29 November 1952, and in the 16-8 victory over Wigan in the 1953 Lancashire Cup final during the 1953–54 season at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 24 October 1953.

Genealogical information

Reg Blakemore's marriage to Nancy Rigby was registered during July→September 1951 in St Helens district.[5] They had children; Sandra Blakemore (birth registered July→September 1958 (age 5758)

in Newport district).
