Rangam is a 1985 Indian Malayalam film, directed by IV Sasi. The film stars Mohanlal, Shobhana and Raveendran in lead roles. The film had musical score by KV Mahadevan.[1][2][3]

Plot

Appuni (Mohanlal) is a Kathakali artist strugglingto end both ends meet. However, he sends his lover Chandramathi (Shobhana) to Madras to do higher studies in classical dance. Once back from Madras, Chandramathi joins Sadanam, the Kathakali and arts center of Appuni which is run by Karunakara Panikker Asan (Jagannatha Varma)a good-hearted art lover . Things change when Madhavan (Raveendran), the son of Asan returns from Russia. He eyes Chandramathi . She falls into his offering and jilts Appuni to marry Madhavan. Heartbroken Appuni decides to leave Sadanam, but is persuaded by Asan to return back when in need. Madhavan modernises the center. Jayanthi Motwani, a north Indian rich girl visits the center to learn Kathakali who allures Madhavan and takes him to Bombay to her dance institute. After learning the departure of Madhavan leaving behind his wife, Asan dies. Appunni takes the charge of Sadanam and helps Chandramathi to built it up. Madhavan realizes that he is being cheated by Jayanthi and comes back to Sadanam but is unwelcomed by Chandramathi. He threatens her and warns Appunni to leave Sadanam. In a stage performance Appuni plays Bheeman and Madhavan Dushasanan, Appuni kills him to save Sadanam. He is arrested by police, who consoles Chandramathi and reminds her about the bright days waiting for Sadanam.
