Nakkheeran Gopal (born: 10 April 1959[1]), is a journalist from Tamil Nadu, India and the editor and publisher of Tamil magazine (thrice a week) Nakkheeran.[2] He has also the author of several controversial books. He has been jailed for withholding information about sandal wood smuggler Veerappan during Jayalalitha's chief ministership.[3][4][5][6][7][8]

Negotiator

Nakkheeran Gopal shot into fame on interviewing forest brigand and criminal Veerappan in forest areas bordering Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.[2] Nakkheeran Gopal is known for his series of interviews with Veerappan, when the later was still a fugitive operating from the Jungles. Nakkheeran Gopal also acted as the intermediary and hostage negotiator for the Government of Tamil Nadu in several cases of kidnapping carried out by Veerappan,
