Piero Castrofilaca
Piero Castrofilaca was Cretan accountant, probably born in the city of Candia (nowadays Heraklion). His name in Greek language means keeper of the castle. Was secretary of the liquidators Gritis and Gartzonis. He is known for the census carried out in the 16th century.
He conducted the systematic recording of the population of Crete. The census of Castrofilaka was based on an earlier census made in 1577 by the predictor Foscarini. The text of the census is preserved today in the Marciana National Library in Venice.
