Philippe Colombe
Philippe Colombe (d. March 1722) was a Safavid artillery commander of French origin.
Biography
Colombe was a native of Paris.[1] He had served in the Imperial Russian Army, but had later left it for Safavid Iran.[1] During the decisive battle against the rebelious Afghans in March 1722, at Gulnabad, Colombe was in command of the artillery corps (although he was nominally under Ahmad Khan, the qurchi-bashi), which hosted 24 cannons.[1] Colombe and his corps were left unprotected, and they were fiercely attacked by the Afghans who killed Colombe and his men.[1]
