Phillip "Phil" Alexander (born 4 September 1962) is an English former association footballer and American footballer. He is now the Chief Executive of Crystal Palace and currently remains the longest serving CEO in English league football.
Career
Alexander's English football career began at Reading. Alexander then joined amateur Wokingham Town, before signing for Norwich City for £2,000 in 1981.[1] Alongside club football Alexander captained England schoolboys against Wales at Carrow Road. He made just one substitute appearance for the Canaries before departing the club and the country in 1983.
Phil Joined Miramar Rangers in New Zealand and played for three seasons before re-joining Wokingham Town. In 1990 Phil also joined the Farnham Knights American football team as kicker alongside his role at Wokingham. He kicked a 54-yard field goal shortly after claiming the English distance record.
Following trials for the new World League of American Football in 1991 Phil was signed to the League and was drafted as place kicker to the London Monarchs, based at Wembley. The Monarchs won the first ever World Bowl in June 1991, beating Barcelona in the final in front of 70,000 fans at Wembley stadium. Alexander was voted in the All World team as kicker and top point scorer.
Following a second season in the World League Alexander took charge of Bracknell Town, a failing non-league team but quickly moved back into professional sport in charge of sales and marketing at Swindon Town, then in the Premier League. In 1996 Phil joined Crystal Palace under Ron Noades and remains at the club enjoying his 20th season as CEO. Phil has served on the Board of the Football League and is currently a Premier League representative on The FA Council.
