Patrick H. "Pat" Lyons is an American politician from New Mexico. He is currently the chairman and commissioner of the 2nd District of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission. Lyons, a Republican, was first elected in 2010. He previously served as a state senator and New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands.
Education
Lyons graduated from Clovis High School in 1972. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from New Mexico State University in 1975, and in 1977, received a master's degree in agriculture from Colorado State University.
Career
In 1978 and 1979, Lyons worked in the Department of Commerce, Agriculture Bureau.
Political career
Lyons served as a state senator from 1992 to 2002, representing six counties in northeastern New Mexico.
New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands
Lyons served as New Mexico Commissioner of Public Lands from January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2010.
Responsible for revenue generation through the management of more than 13 million acres held in trust for state’s 22 beneficiaries (including public schools, penal institution, hospitals, the beneficiaries, through oil and gas, and agricultural leases, economic development, sales and exchanges of land held in trust. Hands on management of 153 employees in the Santa Fe building and 13 district resource managers located throughout the state. Since taking office, Patrick Lyons was able to more than double the amount of revenue generated and distributed to beneficiaries, while maintaining the State Land Office on an annual flat budget for eight years.

Lyons is currently the chairman and commissioner of the 2nd District of the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
Personal life
Pat Lyons, a third generation New Mexican, is the owner/operator of Lyons Angus Ranch in Cuervo, New Mexico. He is an active managing rancher/farmer with a continuous cow/calf operation, buying and selling beef cattle, growing/ harvesting/ utilizing alfalfa.
Lyons is married to his wife of 26 years, Sandy. They have three children Amy, Kimberly, and Daniel.
