Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, a 410-bed teaching hospital which opened on July 1, 1950,[1] is located at 1600 Haddon Avenue, in Camden, New Jersey.
Services
- Cardiology: Lourdes’ signature service, the hospital is one of the largest providers in the Delaware Valley. Cardiologists with the New Jersey Heart Institute at Lourdes specialize in angioplasty and stent placement; open heart surgery and valve replacement; electrophysiology; heart failure management; cardiac rehabilitation; and enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) for treatment of chest pain. In 2007, Lourdes began employing cool, pulsed laser technology to clear blockages in blood vessels of patients with peripheral vascular disease.
- Maternity: About 1,500 babies are born at Lourdes annually. The hospital is a state-designated Regional Perinatal Center, meaning it is equipped to handle all aspects of high-risk pregnancies. Its 25-bed Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) cares for 400 babies annually and is equipped to care for babies that are born at less than 32 weeks gestation and who weigh less than 1,500 grams. In 1988, Lourdes was the first hospital in New Jersey to save a baby who weighed less than a pound.
- Dialysis and Organ transplantation: Lourdes began providing dialysis services in 1969 and today provides more than 45,000 inpatient and outpatient treatments. Lourdes began its organ transplant program in 1974. It is the only hospital in New Jersey approved to perform kidney, pancreas and liver transplants.
- Rehabilitation: The Lourdes Regional Rehabilitation Center is a “hospital within a hospital” and offers inpatient and outpatient physical, occupational therapy and speech therapy. The Rehabilitation Center treats patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, neurological disorders or multiple traumas and helps them relearn how to walk, bathe or climb steps, as well as regain speech and cognitive skills. Lourdes is a state-certified Primary Stroke Center for rapid and effective treatment of stroke patients, from initial diagnosis to rehabilitation.
- Surgery: Lourdes offers a full range of surgical services. In 2006, the hospital began offering robotic surgery as an option in performing minimally invasive urologic and gynecologic procedures. Lourdes is designated as a Bariatric Center of Excellence for its bariatric (weight loss) surgery program.[2]
