Technology
OHS provides a 1:1 laptop program, meaning every high school student gets a laptop to use at school and home during the school year. The program started in 2005.[8] The overall objective of the program is to provide access to technology for all students. In addition, technology provides a means to engage students in the curriculum. It allows them to learn using a medium that they are comfortable using.[8] The program is intended to increase student learning, increase student achievement, and better prepare students to face the challenges of the digital work force.[8]
In addition, OHS has begun to utilize tablet PCs. A tablet is a fully functional laptop plus a fully functional digital notebook. The monitor can be flipped around, set down, and written on using a digital pen included with the tablet. This allows students to actually write notes that would otherwise be difficult through typing. Therefore, students can do assignments, take notes, and do research without ever having to type on the keyboard.[8]
