Optitex provides an integrated 2D/3D software solution for the soft goods and apparel industries.[1]
History
Optitex was founded in 1988 by Ran Machtinger in Israel. Today, there are over 30,000 installations around the world with clients such as BMW, Toyota, Cherokee Uniforms and Tommy Hilfiger.
In June 19, 2016, Optitex was acquired by Electronics for Imaging for $52.8 million.
Products
Optitex offers services for the apparel and soft goods industry for design, development, production, and sales & marketing. Its products are based on three solutions, O/Dev, O/Pro and O/Sel.
O/Dev[2] includes 2D design and 3D visualization modules in a single platform to create, tailor and digitize patterns.
O/Pro[3] includes tools for product development such as marker making, cut plan and automatic nesting.
O/Sel[4] include solutions for sales and marketing, such as using 3D images for viewing and buying collections. The current module is the Optitex Digital Collection, an online app to view full 3D collections.
Technology
The technology provides users[5] with the ability to visualize the draping of a garment according to the movement of a 3D model.[6] Users can then create,[7] correct and adjust designs before any fabric is cut – only in a digital environment.[8]
This 3D simulation[9] considers all of the basic physical characteristics of the material.
The software is used in various industries, but mainly apparel. Universities and other academic institutions are also teaching students to use the software.[10][11][12][13]
Italian fashion brand Roberto Cavalli, used the software to create its collection.[14]
