Opera Las Vegas (OLV) is an opera company serving the Las Vegas Valley. Founded in April 1999,[1] Opera Las Vegas is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation with a volunteer board of directors from the fields of law, accounting, planning and marketing as well as the musical and theatrical arts.[2]
Productions
In September 2011, Opera Las Vegas produced Puccini's Tosca with Gregory Buchalter (a cover conductor for the Metropolitan Opera), conducting the 35-member orchestra, and three Metropolitan Opera singers, soprano Elizabeth Blancke-Biggs as Tosca; tenor Raúl Melo as Cavaradossi; and baritone Daniel Sutin as Scarpia.[3]
In 2012, Opera Las Vegas produced Don Giovanni. Metropolitan Opera baritone Jeff Mattsey sang the title role, joined by four other Met singers: bass Philip Horst as Leporello; sopranos Luana DeVol as Donna Elvira and Amy Shoremount-Obra as Donna Anna; and tenor Mark Thomsen as Don Ottavio with Gregory Buchalter conducting.[4]
OLV's performance venue for the 2014 season was The Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The production of Carmen in 2015 was staged at The Judy Bayley Theatre.
