Biography

Background

When Ofer Mizrahi first came to Miami in 1997, the water, trees and sun struck an immediate chord — no wonder for someone who had been living in Israel’s arid rockiness. But the Eastern experience that requires resource conservation has also led him in business, to his award-winning creation of Bio-Glass, surfacing made from up-cycled glass, and Bio-Aluminum, made from recycled airplanes.[3]

In 2001, Mizrahi started extending his efforts to the revitalization of a brownfield in Wynwood, Miami's District. This site was renovated and launched as the Miami Art Space in 2003,[4] known for its confetti facade Designed by architect Kenneth Treister. He began acquiring the stretch of industrial warehouses that runs alongside the railroad tracks from NE 73rd St. to NE 79th streets, transforming them into contemporary mixed-use complexes with: showrooms, studios, and event spaces. The site was coined Miami Ironside in early 2008, stemming from its location next to the iron railroad tracks as well as the use of iron throughout the renovation design with over 100,000 Square Feet of Historic Industrial Warehouse Structure, up to 70 Multidisciplinary Showrooms, Retail and Restaurant Spaces, and over 200,000 Annual Visitors and Growing.

Miami Ironside's pattern-language is similar to that of a European village concept, with connected pathways leading pedestrians from one building to the next, to exemplify green strategies in the renovation of a warehouse complex: Ironside, to house and showcase creative eco-preneurs who want to be a part of a contemporary concept for a live-work community of like-minded designers, artist, creatives and businesses.
