Norte Chico (Peruvian region)
Norte Chico or Near North Coast ranges over five river valleys north of present-day Lima: the Chancay River, the Huaura River, Supe River, Fortaleza River and Pativilca River.
Part of the region is the home of the Caral-Supe civilization or Norte Chico civilization, the first known complex culture in the Americas, which lasted from about 3000BC to 1800BC. While archeological evidence consists of irrigation systems and pyramids, there is debate about whether Caral was an urban civilization.
