New Junk Aesthetic is the fifth studio album by metalcore band Every Time I Die. It was released on September 15, 2009. It was the band's first album to be released by their new record label, Epitaph Records. The album artwork was created by guitarist Jordan Buckley.[1]

Album History

On July 8, "The Marvelous Slut" was released as a free download.[2]

On July 22, Every Time I Die posted the first minisode of their new weekly web series, Shit Happens: The Series? which featured various live footage as well as snippets of tracks from New Junk Aesthetic. A press release explained the concept:

Over the next 12 weeks, Every Time I Die will unveil episodes that are packed to the gills with impromptu footage showcasing the band's signature brand of humor that has made them infamous amongst their fans and peers alike. This is by no means a scripted reality show containing foreseeable plot twists and over-dramatic story arches. Nor is this your typical live band DVD that focuses on the tedium of tracking a record or the self-congratulatory tales of what inspired their lyrics. Instead, "The Series?" focuses on what it is exactly that drives 5 individuals from similar backgrounds to forfeit family and friends and take to the road year after year for the sake of their craft. Whether you're a fan of music or simply an admirer of the nomadic spirit that resides in all of us, "Shit Happens: The Series?" will make you feel at home. [3]

On August 18, Every Time I Die released a second new song entitled "Wanderlust" on their MySpace.[4]

The album was subject to very positive reviews. AbsolutePunk.net reviewer Drew Beringer gave an overall verdict of 91%, saying "The truth is Every Time I Die has never sounded better, and New Junk Aesthetic, musically speaking, should be classified as a weapon of mass destruction" as well as praising the album's guitar work."[5] Another positive review came from Sputnikmusic staff reviewer Adam Thomas, commenting on how it is a fusion of all the band's previous albums, and "To put it simply, there's something for everyone."[12] Allmusic gave the album three and a half stars and writes "Every Time I Die sounds energized and passionate, delivering its blend of old and new sounds with a directness that gives the ferocious music an unusually broad appeal."[6]

The album debuted at number 46 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling an estimated 12,000 copies in its first week.
