Nasugban, Iloilo

Nasugban is a barangay in Santa Barbara, Iloilo in the Philippines. It was established during the second half of the 16th century. The original living families were the family of Teniente ito and their relatives. The barangay is 5 kilometers away from the poblacion with an area of 125.80 hectares. It has a triangular shape, with a barangay road of 2.0 kilometers. The patron saint is Saint Vincent Ferrer and the feast day is celebrated on the last Saturday of April.

History

The legendary name of the barangay was GINASAG-UBAN. The story happened before according to the ancients folks, that in this barangay there was a spring well that overflows, where all the folks of this barangay... and the neighboring barangays depends their water supply during summer days. One day when the people were bathing in that well,a stranger passed by and asked them why there were many crowding around the well. One of them answered that this is the only well nga amon ginasag-uban during summer time. Then the stranger misinterpret it to NASUGBAN. From that time on the place was called NASUGBAN, as misinterpretation of Ginasag-uban.
