Nanyang Business School (NBS) is the business school of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU). Singapore's oldest business school, NBS was established in 1956 at the then Nanyang University, which was subsequently absorbed by the National University of Singapore in 1980 before it finally moved to NTU in 1987. It is also the largest business school in Singapore with over 6,800 students pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and executive programmes.[1][2]

NBS is widely regarded as Singapore's premier business school and is consistently ranked amongst the world's best. For 13 consecutive years since 2004, Nanyang Business School has been ranked No.1 in Singapore by The Economist Full-time MBA rankings.[3][4] NTU's flagship Nanyang MBA was placed 29th worldwide (1st in Singapore) in the 2016 Financial Times Global MBA Ranking.[5]

History

Academia & Accreditations

Nanyang Business School is the first business school in Singapore, and the third in Asia, to be accredited by both the European Quality Improvement System and Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. It is also one of only 11 business schools outside of the US to be accredited with the AACSB in Accounting.

The school offers 3-year direct honours single degree programmes. NBS' double degree programmes and the integrated Bachelor/Master's programme can be completed within 3.5 to 4 years. As part of the degree requirements, all undergraduates will have to complete a professional internship.

Post Graduate Programs

NBS offers a 12-month full-time or 20-month part-time degree with 3 specific career tracks to choose from: General Management track, Strategy & Innovation track and Banking and Finance track. Each of these tracks offer 9 core courses in:

The 12 month basic MBA programme will span over 3 trimesters. The size of the current batch is 88. The Nanyang MBA programme allows the students to either choose the Nanyang General MBA course or earn a Double MBA, earning one from Nanyang Business School and another from a partner university. Other programmes include the Nanyang Executive MBA, Nanyang Fellows MBA, MSc Accountancy and MSc Financial Engineering.

Nanyang Technological University is a large 200 hectare campus along the Jurong West district of Singapore consisting of a number of schools and colleges and residential buildings. The campus offers various facilities for students to enjoy such as the e-commerce laboratory and financial trading rooms. In 2014, Nanyang Business School launched the 165-square meter Centre for Applied Financial Education, the largest finance lab in Singapore. The new lab is equipped with 60 dedicated Thomson Reuters Eikon terminals with Datastream, along with 24 Bloomberg terminals that will allow business school students to access all kinds of real-time financial, economic and business news information.[8]

Nanyang Business School has more than 160 professors from more than 20 countries, proficient in 30 languages holding doctorates from the most renowned universities in the world. This makes NBS one of the largest business schools in the world in terms of faculty strength.[9][10]

Professor Vijay Sethi (Information Technology & Operations Management) was awarded World’s Best Business Professor by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) [11] in 2013. His work is focused on digital disruptions, the economics of technology, social media and networks, data analytics, legal and IPR issues, and patterns of new technology evolution.

Professor Tan Hun-Tong is the world's No.1 accounting researcher[12] according to the Brigham Young University (BYU) Accounting Research Rankings, while Professor Clive Lennox is ranked 2nd in Asia. NBS is ranked joint 7th in the world with MIT and is top in Singapore for accounting research.[13]
