History and growth

The company was founded in 2009 by Anisha Singh, Ashish Bhatnagar and Arjun Basu. mydala was launched in November 2009.[1] The company's name, "mydala," comes from the Sanskrit word dala ("group"), reflecting the principle of its 'group buying’ niche.[2]

mydala[3] is a marketing platform, which connects merchants and consumers through channels on the Web, WAP, and mobile applications.[4]

In 2011, the mydala network had a reach of over 200 million users throughout India.[5] By 2014, it had partnerships with over 100,000 merchants in over 190 cities in India, with the potential to reach more than 100 million users through the internet, mobile devices, and TV platforms.[6]

In 2015, Bharti Airtel, the country's largest cellular operator, collaborated with mydala[7] to offer free coupons on recharges.

Funding

mydala has received two rounds of funding. The company was initially funded by promoters and an investment of INR 1.1cr from a group of angel investors, which included the founders of CX Partners.[8] Secondly, in 2011, mydala raised venture capital totalling US$6 million from Info Edge (India) Ltd.[9]
