Moxie is the recording and composing name of Evan Kitchener. He is a solo composer and one of the founding members of the band Earnest Irony. He works as a composer and sound designer for film and TV shows in Australia.[1] His musical style is often as "Sample Rock" and is influenced by the groups Apollo 440, Moby and Daft Punk. Before being known as Moxie,[2] Evan Kitchener was known under the name of Dj Jib.[3]
Early career
He started composing music while in high school under the name of Dj Jib. While in high school he collaborated musically with his friend Alex Yabsley aka “Protestah” at the time but is now known under the name Dot.AY. The collaboration projects between the two were known under the name of Fiber Optic Cable, FOC for short. They produced 6 tracks together which they released on their own separate albums.[4]
He then moved to Melbourne to study Audio Engineering. While there he collaborated with film students on their short films, working on the sound and music. He carried this film interest after completing his studies and works on musical composition and sound design for film and TV shows in Australia as well as continuing to make music under the name .[5]
Earnest Irony
Earnest Irony is a strictly studio band formed by Evan Kitchener, with his brother Justin Kitchener. Jared Brown is a longtime contributor to the band but not one of the founding members.
In its first year the band formed with minimal musical and audio equipment. They recorded a handful of raw improvised tracks and the band Earnest Irony was created. The next year they invested time and money setting up their own recording studio in an old empty house and "Old House Studio" was born.
Yearly sessions have resulted in 4 recorded albums as of 2014.[6] The band has also been very active in the creative process in their film clips, which usually are humorous in nature.[7]
