Osage Casino
Osage Nation operates seven casinos in Oklahoma. The 25th largest tribe in the United States, it is located in Osage County, Oklahoma which is larger than the U.S. states of Delaware and Rhode Island.[1]
History
Osage Million Dollar Elm was the previous name of the casinos until 2011.[2] This was based on the first mineral auctions conducted for the Osage Tribe in 1922 beneath the "Million Dollar Elm" tree, Pawhuska, Oklahoma, where more than $1 million of Osage oil leases were auctioned. The "Million Dollar Elm" name was originated by reporters and magazine writers dramatizing the events when founders of the world’s greatest oil companies--Frank Phillips and E.W. Marland—came in person to bid on oil and natural gas.[3]
