Millie Inbetween is a British children's sitcom series broadcast on CBBC and stars Millie Innes. The first series premiered on 1 October 2014. It focuses on 13 year-old Millie and her 15-year-old sister whose parents have recently split up.[2]
Production
In March 2014, BBC commissioned a new 13-part series called The Millie Show.[3] The show name was then changed Millie Inbetween. It was filmed in Dumbarton, Scotland at the River City Studios.[3]
Plot
Millie McDonald (Millie Innes) is a 13-year-old girl who lives with her 15-year-old sister Lauren McDonald (Tallulah Greive). Their parents have split up, so the two sisters are constantly swapping living with 'Mum' Sharon, (Hannah Jane Fox) and 'Dad' Tony (James Bachman/Richard Lumsden). Millie loves the upsides of her new family set-up; two Christmas celebrations, two birthdays, and two bedrooms. However, the downsides are more tricky to come to terms with, as her parents start new relationships. The parents' new partners have children, too - and they all want to move in. Sharon has a new partner called Mike, who has a son called Craig, who is a nightmare. Tony meets a new partner called Amber, who has 2 children called Fran and Jake.[4][5]
Characters
- Millie Macdonald (played by Millie Innes) is a 13-year-old girl who lives with her 15-year-old sister. She, with her sister, is constantly swapping living with Mum and Dad. She loves the upsides of her new family set-up and has a positive attitude towards her mum and dad's split-up. She is the peacemaker of the family, and is friends with Craig. Her best friend is Fran. She is always coming up with plans and trying to get her parents together.
- Lauren Macdonald (played by Tallulah Greive) is a 15-year-old girl who lives with her 13-year-old sister Millie. She, with her sister, is constantly swapping living with Mum and Dad. She has a very negative attitude to, not just her parents split-up, but to almost everything. She goes to all measures to get her parents back together. She is obsessed with a boy band called The Temper Hearts.
- Sharon played by (Hannah Jane Fox) is Millie and Lauren's mum. She previously worked at supermarket chain "Sunnyshoppers" but was made redundant, and now runs a home company that makes cushions that resemble vegetables. Her ex-husband, Tony, is Lauren and Millie's father. She is in a relationship with personal-trainer, Mike. Sharon can easily be guilt-tripped, and often needs advice from Millie.
- Tony (played by James Bachman (Series 1) and Richard Lumsden (Series 2 & 3) ), is Millie and Lauren's dad. He lives in a flat with partner Amber and her two children. Millie and Lauren visit regularly. He still seems to have not recovered from his and Sharon's split, yet appears to be happy with Amber. He often stops Millie and Lauren from growing up, Amber often has to step in.
- Mike (played by Jeremy Edwards) is Sharon's personal trainer and partner. He has one son, Craig, who does not seem to get on with Millie, Lauren or Sharon - but tries to. He has a good relationship with Millie but can find it difficult to create the "father-daughter bond". He is infamous for the catchphrase, "Heya, hiya!"
- Craig (played by Theo Stevenson) is Mike's son. He lives with Mike, Sharon, Millie and Lauren. Sometimes he lives with his mother. He loves listening to music, playing video games and eating. He tries to fit in with Millie and her family, but doesn't like to admit it. He took Jake under his wing.
- Amber (played by Jaye Jacobs) is Fran and Jake's mum, and Tony's partner. She works as a midwife, and on one occasion, had to deliver a baby in Tony's flat. She lives with Tony and her two children. She appears to be a very calm and collected person but can sometimes find it difficult to be organised.
- Fran (played by Mya-Lecia Naylor) is the daughter of Amber and sister of Jake. Fran, her mother and brother live in a flat with stepdad Tony. She does not have a good relationship with her biological father and is often let down by him, so has given up any idea of hope. She is best friends with Millie and has a very good relationship with Tony.
- Jake (played by Marley Lockhart) is Amber's son and Fran's brother. He is very talkative, gets distracted easily and gets hyperactive - either when he consumes too much sugar, or plays too many video games. He is very clumsy, and naive at times, but has good intentions. He has a very good relationship with Tony and treats him like a father. He also admires Craig and looks up to him like an older brother.
